Ocular system doesn’t suffer from application of inhaled steroids

Although there are numerous steroids that cause dangerous adverse results, there are also such steroids which benefit greatly for our health. Some recent researches linked with the inhaled corticosteroid budesonide have given to our society certain hope. This product has been used numerous times to cure kids who have asthma. It has been believed that this preparation led to cataract in kids that administrated it. But the recent researches have manifested that the risk linked with this negative effect is very low.
Several professors at the University of Southern Denmark in Holding have led a research to determine possibility of occurring cataract in the kids that were treated with the steroid budesonide. There was no any cataract in 148 patients that were given this inhaled steroid. Among those who didn’t experience asthma and were not treated with budesonide 2 persons had cataract.  It was stated by the pediatric professor Soren Pedersen from the University of the Southern Denmark in Kolding. This report was pronounced during a meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology in San Francisco.   Soren Pedersen noted that when it came to cataract, there was no any difference between those who took budesonide and those who didn’t apply it.
The doctor Soren Pederson and his colleagues have treated numerous persons that suffered from asthma with budesonide during over 2 decades. There was no any indication that this corticosteroid could lead to any severe adverse consequence. Kids that were given budesonide didn’t have any growth disorders.
In the recent research 270 kids with asthma were given budesonide; 62 kids didn’t apply budesonide because their parents feared of the consequences. Parents of those to whom budesonide was given reported that no any severe adverse effect was observed in their children. 30 of those 62 children that took budesonide felt benefits in the treatment of asthma.
The professors have defined that the risk of cataract for those that treat asthma with the steroid budesonide was 5 %.
Soren Pedersen stated that there was no any cataract or another adverse effect linked with vision during over 15 years of his practice of curing kids with the steroid budesonide.
Hyun Don Yun, MD, a resident in allergy and immunology at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, has noted that these aspects have demonstrated that even long-time treatment with budesonide doesn’t cause any side consequence related to visual system.
According to several other studies, inhaled steroids have different influence on our systems in comparison with effects of other steroids.
It is important to conclude that there are steroids which can benefit instead of causing serious unwanted reactions. It is impossible to contest positive effects of some steroids.
