Patrick Mendes and Joshua Gilbert were sentenced to suspensions

The top Olympic weightlifters Patrick Mendes and Joshua Gilbert were banned from “Average Broz’s Gymnasium” (Las Vegas, Nevada). They tested positive for forbidden medications. Joshua Gilbert tested positive for the diuretic substance furosemide at the 2012 National Weightlifting Championships. It was in March 2012.

Moreover, this medication helps sportspersons to lose weight in order to correspond to certain weight groups.  Weightlifting, boxing and wrestling are sports where athletes belong to certain weight groups.

Mendes was sentenced to 2-year suspension. As for Gilbert, he was sentenced to 3-year suspension.
The suspensions of these athletes are failure for “Average Broz’s Gym”. Thus, the greatest weightlifters were not allowed to represent their native country at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Heavyweight boxer Larry Olubamiwo finally tested positive for banned drug

The heavyweight boxer Larry “War Machine” Olubamiwo took certain anabolic steroids, HGH, IGF-1 and other doping drugs during six years. Although certain tests have been conducted earlier, he was caught just in January 2012. After a fight against Sam Sexton Larry Olubamiwo tested positive for forbidden medications. Metabolites of steroids were not found in his sample. The boxer tested positive for EPO. EPO represents a blood boosting preparation.
Prolonged usage of forbidden preparations by Olubamiwo was a real embarrassment for the United Kingdom Anti-Doping. Andy Parkinson, the CEO of the UKAD, tried to note that the ban of Olubamiwo for application of 13 different prohibited medicines is a real success of the UKAD in the struggle against doping.  
Andy Parkinson noted that it was an unusual case. The boxer used steroids and other related preparations for long period of time without fear to spoil his health, career and reputation. He was sentenced to 4-year suspension.
But the alarming factor is following: Olumamiwo could avoid detection for long time, despites great efforts of anti-doping officers to “clean” sports from application of doping medications.
Olubamiwo was caught just because the UKAD was informed by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that he became the target of an investigation related to illegal sale of anabolic steroids and other doping drugs in the US. Then the UKAD conducted a test that resulted in positive results for EPO.
Robert Smith, the General Secretary for the British Boxing Board of Control, supported the affirmations of Andy Parkinson about efforts and success of anti-doping officers. He claimed that the case demonstrated that cheating couldn’t be hidden.

The founder of BALCO doesn’t believe that usage of forbidden products has decreased. He doesn’t agree with persons who state that reduced performance in different sports is a proof that steroids and other related medications are almost excluded from sports.

President of Singapore Bodybuilding and Fitness Federations admitted to providing recommendations linked with steroid cycles

Media is used to exaggerate any case related to steroids in sports and bodybuilding. Numerous facts are described in misleading ways. So, steroid scandals appear without any reason. One of the cases is presented in the article.
Rano Izhar, the president of the Singapore Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (SBFF), has admitted that he provided instructions related to usage of anabolic steroids.
Any person who belongs to the world of bodybuilding knows that steroids, HGH and certain other related preparations are widely spread and utilized by bodybuilders. Several news websites have written many articles, presenting the actions of the SBFF president as a steroid scandal. But be careful! He has not distributed anabolic steroids, he has only disseminated information.
The Singapore’s newspaper “The New Paper” revealed emails between a bodybuilder and the president of the SBFF that were written before Rano Izhar became the president. Izhar provided guidelines linked with steroids cycles to the bodybuilder. The cycles were composed of 14 different preparations, including such steroids, as Anadrol 50, Dianabol, Primobolan Depot, etc. Clomid was also included in the cycles.
Izhar noted that the guidelines were only for his friend who was an amateur bodybuilder. Moreover, he was not the president of the SBFF, when he provided the guidelines.
Izhar’s friend planned to apply steroids. He decided to do it. Izhar didn’t promote it. He only wanted to help his friend. He wished he applied steroids in the safest way.
Izhar admitted that he had provided guidelines connected with steroid cycles. He affirmed that he needed to tell his friend which drugs were efficacious and which medications didn’t work properly. Izhar added that when someone asked him about ways to administer steroids, it meant that they would apply them, regardless of the answer. Thus, the president just felt that he had to notice at least the most important aspects that should be known about steroids.
Izhar has gotten the degree of Doctor in “lifestyle medicine” at the Harvard Medical School. He felt that he had to do everything he could for harm reduction for those that administer steroids and other related drugs.

US’ struggle against steroids in Poland

Anyone must have observed that the US tries to bust multinational companies that advertise steroids on internet and send them to clients around the world.
Recently the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has co-worked with Poland’s law enforcement officers in order to bust individuals that have been suspected in shipment of steroids and other related medicines to different countries of the world.
This investigation began approximately one year ago. The polish Border Guard Straz Graniczna intercepted huge doses of steroids that were shipped to persons in the US and Canada. Steroids in form of injections and pills were confiscated at the Warsaw mail terminal.
Straz Graniczna collaborated with US DEA. Ultimately two men from Poland were detained. One of them was detained, after he left the post office. Over 7, 000 steroid pills and 19, 000 steroid vials and 47, 000 Polish zloty or more than 14, 000 US dollars were found in this man’s car. But it was only the beginning of confiscation.
It was determined that an apartment located in Warsaw was a base of the underground lab that produced steroids that are usually applied by American bodybuilders. When police officials raided the apartment, they discovered drug paraphernalia there. The apartment was used not only for manufacture of steroids but also for keeping of prepared steroids. Circa 666, 000 steroid pills, 19, 000 vials of steroids and over 5, 000 steroid ampoules were seized during the search. The drugs were estimated. The price was claimed to be 6 million Polish zloty that are equal to 1, 8 million US dollars.
It is supposed that the US will ask Polish authorities to extradite these two persons.
The USA is aggressive, when it comes to war on steroids. Multinational steroid companies are busted.
But the US doesn’t have essential success working with Europe and Asia. The US presses other countries to arrest and extradite distributors of steroids.
Steroid dealers who were related to British Dragon and Musclebear were arrested and extradited to the US from Thailand and Cyprus.
The US pressed Austria to arrest Mihael Karner, the leader of an international drug company. Thus, he was arrested. Then the USA pressed Austrian authorities to extradite this person to the US. But federal prosecutors didn’t have success that time. Mihael Karner paid one million Euros to Austrian authorities to avoid the extradition and arrive to his native country Slovenia.

Federal prosecutors failed to convince jurors that Roger Clemens was guilty

Names of twelve individuals (four men and eight women) that belonged to jury at the case against the athlete Roger Clemens were released by the judge Reggie Walton.
The government wanted the jury to be convinced that the athlete had lied before the Congress about administration of steroids and HGH. But since the jury didn’t believe it, the government criticized the persons that acted as the jury. Certain persons who composed the jury were interviewed.
A political activist, an art historian, a teacher of deaf kids, an official of Treasury Department and an employee of the Canadian Embassy were belonged to the jury.
The political activist Joyce Robinson-Paul was interviewed by the New York Daily News several days after the verdict. She affirmed that the jury comprehended that they had to be fair to both the federal prosecutors and the sportsperson. But they didn’t find anything that had to be prosecuted.  Later she also noticed that the government couldn’t prove their statements.
Bradford Weaver, an employee of the Canadian Embassy claimed that the government acted wrongly. He noted that such cases should not happen again. This person also noticed that there was nothing to be pursued. This person was interviewed by the Associated Press. He also noticed that each juror understood from the very beginning that Roger Clemens was not guilty of any charge. This person confirmed that each juror was unanimous.
The employee of the Canadian Embassy was also asked whether he thought that Roger Clemens really applied steroids. Journalists of the Associated Press also asked him whether he considered that the governmental case against the athlete represented just the waste of taxpayers’ funds. But he refused to answer the questions.
Another juror who chose not to be named noticed that the jurors didn’t understand how the government could spend essential sums of money during five years in order to prosecute the athlete. This person noticed that it was impossible to comprehend why the prosecution took place 5 years.
Other jurors didn’t provide any information.
As for feds, they were wholly disappointed. They refused to respond to the affirmations pronounced by the jurors.
