Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk used metenolone

Nadzeya Ostapchuk, a Belarusian shot putter, won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. But the athlete forfeited the award because she tested positive for the steroid metenolone (methenolone). She provided two samples. The substance metenolone was found in both urine samples.
If you read news related to steroid use in sports, you must know that professional sportspeople and bodybuilders are usually caught taking other steroids and/or performance-enhancing drugs. But when it comes to Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught administering metenolone. It is strange, according to statements of anti-doping officers. What does this prohibited medicine represent? Why don’t athletes ordinarily administer this drug for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone is an anabolic steroid. It possesses slight androgenic features. It acts like testosterone, enhancing muscle mass and adding endurance.
Although this medicine possesses just mild androgenic nature, it leads to development of sex male features in women. Women that use this remedy may face common signs of masculinization: the voice becomes deeper; hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This anabolic steroid can be applied orally or through injections.
Metenolone (Methenolone) benefits greatly, when it is administered by sportspersons during their trainings. It is not applied during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is applied just on the day of a competition.
It is also stated that it is easy to catch those who take this anabolic steroid.
Unwanted reactions of Metenolone (Methenolone) hinge upon dosages which are used. They include water retention, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, excessive hair growth on the body, acne, hair loss, menstrual abnormalities, enhanced sex drive, etc.
So, when you see a female athlete that has deep voice and excessive hair growth on the body, you may suspect her of steroid use. Actually, it is wrong because these problems may occur also in those women who don’t apply any steroids. But sometimes these effects display that certain female athletes use drugs that possess androgenic features.
