The American fighter Chael Sonnen is allowed to administer anabolic steroids. The physician Timothy Trainor claimed that this sportsman actually had hypogonadism.
What does this disorder represent? Hypogonadism is related to insufficient production of the hormone testosterone. Doctors commonly prescribe hormone replacement therapy for treatment of this disorder.
The athlete Chael Sonnen has obtained a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). So, this fighter is allowed to take steroids for clinical purposes and fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 148 in July 2012.
According to instructions given by Chael Sonnen’s health care provider, he should apply injections of Testosterone Enanthate and Testosterone Cypionate twice per week. The measures which are indicated have not been discussed. But under rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission, blood serum levels of testosterone in Chael Sonnen should be within normal range on the morning after the match with Silva.
The doctor Trainor confirms that those that fight, having TUE, must be tested on the morning after the match to learn whether they have used something right before the competition.
Trainor believes that testosterone causes performance-enhancing effects, if it is applied right before the fight. He confirms that injections must not be applied in the days before a fight to prevent high levels of testosterone.
But it seems that the NAC doesn’t know that steroids cause benefits connected with enhancement of performance, not only if they are applied right before competitions. Administration of steroids influences essentially on performance during workouts before competitions. And the benefits remain even after sportspersons discontinue utilizing them.
Chael Sonnen had elevated testosterone levels at UFC 117. He noted that he had tested positive because he had been on TRT. He appealed his suspension and it was reduced to 6 months from one year. But he didn’t have any TUE that time.
